An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for Yuma by the NWS Phoenix AZ, forecasting dangerous temperatures of 104-108°F from Wednesday morning through Friday evening; residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Yuma residents are advised to prepare for dangerously hot conditions as an Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ has issued the watch, effective from Wednesday morning, October 7th, through Friday evening, October 9th.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach between 104 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a major heat risk. Heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heat stroke, increase significantly during such extreme heat events.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours when possible. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for those working outdoors. Consult county officials for information on available public cooling shelters.
