Extreme Heat Watch Issued for Yuma: Prepare for Dangerously Hot Conditions
An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for Yuma from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening, with temperatures up to 108 degrees, prompting warnings about heat-related illnesses and actionable safety measures.
Yuma residents are advised to prepare for dangerously hot conditions as an Extreme Heat Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service Phoenix AZ. The Watch is effective from Wednesday morning, October 7th, through Thursday evening, October 8th, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach 104 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit.
This alert signifies a Major Heat Risk, increasing the likelihood of heat-related illnesses. The NWS Phoenix AZ warns that overexposure can lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heat stroke.
Residents should take extra precautions, especially those who work or spend time outdoors. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening when possible. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. Public cooling shelters may be available; consult county officials for more details.
