Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Southeast Yuma County, Gila River Valley, Gila Bend

Residents in Southeast Yuma County, the Gila River Valley, and Gila Bend should monitor weather conditions closely. A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ at 5:51 PM MST, effective until 6:15 PM MST today, September 23, 2026.

A strong thunderstorm is currently located 22 miles south of Sentinel and 42 miles southwest of Gila Bend, moving west at 10 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-sized hail. These conditions could lead to downed tree limbs and unsecured objects blowing around. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Torrential rainfall is also associated with this storm, posing a risk of flash flooding. The NWS advises against driving vehicles through flooded roadways. The affected areas primarily include rural parts of Maricopa and East Central Yuma Counties.
