The candidate filing period for the 2026 Midterm Election begins on Tuesday, May 19, and closes on Tuesday, June 4. The filing fee is $5 and is done in the City Clerk’s Office at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW. City offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are approximately 500 acres of existing municipal parkland and two regional parks with varying amenities, creating a comprehensive system with many diverse opportunities to recreate and enjoy the natural environment. The City of Ramsey's street system consists of over 190 miles of paved streets and 2 miles of dirt streets. The City of Ramsey's water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems are categorized as utility systems. The City has two water stations available to the public for a small fee. Ramsey Adopt-a-Flag Program Seeks Community Sponsors
The City’s Adopt-A-Flag program was created to unite our community and show our civic pride. The program offers American flag sponsorships to individuals and businesses, not only decorating our streets but also serving as a way to honor a particular person in your life or to show patriotism. The American flags are currently lining Sunwood Drive NW near the Ramsey Municipal Center. The City hopes to expand the program along Veterans Drive NW and other streets as it grows. The flags are in place by Memorial Day and taken down after Veterans Day each year.Two sponsorship levels are available: Friends of the Flag and Patriot Sponsorship. A few examples include reduced stormwater runoff, moderation of temperatures, increased property values, and contribution to personal and community health. Recognizing the many benefits associated with trees, Ramsey strives to manage and foster the growth of our community forest, a vital natural resource. As a result, Ramsey qualifies as a Tree City USA. Tree City USA is a national program that recognizes communities taking specific actions to manage their community forest properly. Four core standards must be met to be acknowledged as a Tree City USA. The Arbor Day Foundation designed the standards to ensure a qualifying community had a viable community forest management plan and program. Ramsey has been recognized as a Tree City USA for 33 consecutive years! While that is an outstanding achievement, there is still room for improvement. City staff and the Environmental Policy Board will continue with efforts to manage this vital resource properly and look for areas for improvement. In general, the risk level in Minnesota is high from April through July. During the "High Risk" period, do not wound, prune, or fell oaks. Immediately cover unavoidable wounds with a latex-based paint or shellac. The active season typically begins in May and runs through September. Since adult EAB insects can fly and infest nearby ash trees, please avoid removing ash branches, stumps and trees during the active season. Only prune or remove ash trees if absolutely necessary and transport the wood, covered, to the nearest ash tree waste disposal site. Ramsey: New Organics Recycling Program Explained
Why Organics Recycling?Organics recycling is a form of commercial composting where organic material is separated from garbage meant for landfills. Unlike traditional backyard composting, all foods, including meats, dairy products, and used paper products, such as pizza boxes and tissue paper, which are not usually recyclable, are collected and turned into compost. Organic recycling helps reduce methane-producing bacteria in landfills. It also benefits the economy by creating jobs and revenue, and producing a finished compost product. Using finished compost can minimize soil erosion and the reliance upon chemical fertilizers while increasing soil nutrients, crop production, and water retention. Organics make up about one-third of Minnesota’s garbage. Capturing organics for recycling will help Ramsey achieve the goals set by the Anoka County Board of Commissioners and the State’s goal of recycling 75 percent of our waste by 2030.
