Strong Thunderstorm Nearing Sheridan, Western Cherry Counties
A strong thunderstorm with 40 mph wind gusts and penny-size hail is expected to impact Sheridan and Western Cherry counties until 8:00 PM UTC tonight, prompting a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service.
Residents in Sheridan and Western Cherry counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service in North Platte has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 8:00 PM UTC tonight, September 27, 2026.
As of 7:19 PM MDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm located 21 miles north of Ellsworth, or 28 miles southeast of Rushville. This storm is moving northeast at 20 mph and is expected to bring wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny-sized hail.
Locations that may be impacted include Big Hill, Billys Lake, Argo Hill, and Morgan Lake. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible.
