High Winds Expected: Seek Shelter in Sheridan, Western Cherry Counties
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Sheridan and Western Cherry counties, warning of wind gusts up to 55 mph until 5:00 PM MDT; residents should seek shelter indoors if outside.
Residents in Sheridan and Western Cherry counties should be prepared for wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Platte, NE, at 4:10 PM MDT today, October 10, 2026. This alert is expected to remain in effect until 5:00 PM MDT.
Doppler radar indicates gusty showers are moving northeast at 25 mph, currently located 16 miles north of Ellsworth, or 31 miles southeast of Rushville. The NWS warns that these gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Areas specifically impacted include Watson Lake, Big Hill, Dipping Vat Meadow, Billys Lake, Wolf Hill, Morgan Lake, Finnegan Lake, Kennedy Lake, Intersection of Highway 61 and Survey Valley Road, and Argo Hill. This also affects Highway 250 between mile markers 16 and 19, and Highway 61 between mile markers 178 and 191.
The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety during this period of high winds.
