Florida Keys Catch: Troy Warren's Islamorada Expedition

Monroe County resident Troy Warren recently returned from a successful fishing expedition in Islamorada, bringing home a notable catch that has been the talk of local fishing enthusiasts. Warren, a familiar face at the Marathon Bait & Tackle shop, landed a impressive 40-pound Wahoo during his trip last week.

The Wahoo, known for its speed and fighting spirit, was caught approximately 15 miles offshore from Islamorada, near the famed Islamorada Hump. Warren reported using live pilchards as bait, a technique he credits for much of his success in the Keys waters. He was fishing aboard his personal vessel, the "Reel Fun," a 24-foot center console he often docks at the Key Colony Beach Marina.

Warren, who has lived in Marathon for over two decades in the heart of the Middle Keys, shared that the fish put up a significant fight, taking nearly 30 minutes to reel in. "It was a real battle, but that's what makes fishing in the Keys so exciting," Warren commented, adding that he plans to share his fresh catch with neighbors and friends at a community cookout this weekend.
