Calvin V. Smith Appointed to Monroe County Planning Commission
Monroe County Commissioners announced the appointment of local resident Calvin V. Smith to the Monroe County Planning Commission during their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Smith, a long-time resident of the Elmwood neighborhood, will fill the vacancy left by the recent resignation of Martha Jenkins.
Smith brings a background in civil engineering and community development to the commission. He has previously volunteered on several local initiatives, including the recent revitalization project for the historic downtown square on Main Street. His term on the Planning Commission is effective immediately and will run through December 31, 2028.
The Monroe County Planning Commission is responsible for advising the Board of County Commissioners on matters related to land use, zoning, and development within the county's island chain. Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM in the County Administration Building on 123 Government Way in Key West. The public is welcome to attend.
