Body Found Off Long Beach Identified as Missing Boater
Monroe County authorities have identified the body discovered floating off Long Beach yesterday, April 7, 2026, as that of a boater who had been reported missing since last week. The individual's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
The discovery was made by a local fisherman around 10:30 AM yesterday morning in the clear waters of the Florida Keys, approximately two miles offshore from the Long Beach pier. Emergency services, including the Monroe County Marine Patrol and the Coast Guard, responded to the scene to recover the body.
The missing boater, whose vessel was found adrift near Pelican Point on April 3, had been the subject of an extensive search operation over the past several days. The vessel, a 22-foot center console, was found unoccupied and showed no signs of distress or damage, leading investigators to believe the individual may have fallen overboard.
While the official cause of death has not yet been released, an autopsy is scheduled to be performed by the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office. The Sheriff's Office stated that foul play is not suspected at this time, and the incident appears to be a tragic accident.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office extends its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Further details will be released as they become available.
