Redfish & Snook Roundup

Redfish & Snook Roundup

Monroe County anglers are gearing up for the annual Redfish & Snook Roundup, a popular fishing tournament that draws participants from across the Florida Keys. The event, known for its focus on conservation and responsible angling, is scheduled to take place this coming weekend, April 17-18, 2026.

Organized by the Monroe County Anglers Association, the Roundup aims to promote sustainable fishing practices while offering a competitive and fun experience for all skill levels. Participants will target redfish and snook, two of the most prized inshore species in our local waters around the Florida Keys. The tournament emphasizes catch-and-release, with winners determined by photographic evidence of fish length, ensuring the health of the local fish populations.

Registration for the Redfish & Snook Roundup is still open and can be completed at the Monroe Bait & Tackle shop on Main Street until Friday evening. A captain's meeting will be held Friday night at 7:00 PM at the Old Mill Marina clubhouse, where rules will be reviewed, and last-minute questions addressed.

Prizes will be awarded for the longest redfish and snook caught in both adult and junior divisions. Beyond the competition, the event serves as a significant fundraiser for the Monroe County Marine Conservation Fund, which supports local initiatives like seagrass restoration and artificial reef projects. Last year's Roundup raised over $5,000 for these vital efforts.

Local businesses, including Captain's Quarters Restaurant and Fin & Feather Outfitters, are sponsoring the event, contributing to the prize pool and providing refreshments for participants. The awards ceremony will take place Sunday afternoon at 3:00 PM at the Old Mill Marina pavilion, followed by a community fish fry open to all participants and their families.

Residents are encouraged to come out and support the anglers and the conservation efforts. Even if not participating, the weigh-in and awards ceremony offer a chance to see some impressive catches and enjoy the community spirit.
