Broward Sheriff's Office rescue crews airlifted a survivor from a fatal airboat collision on October 2 in the Frances S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, located between Interstate 75 and Tamiami Trail in the Everglades.
Two airboats collided in the remote area. The crash killed airboat operator Alessandro Borgo, 32, and a dog. A second man suffered injuries. BSO Aviation located him within minutes despite dense sawgrass obscuring the crash site.
An Air Rescue crew and a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue airboat hoisted the injured man from the swamp and transported him to a local hospital. Officials said he will make a full recovery.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the crash.
