Key Biscayne residents will continue to experience periodic traffic disruptions on East Heather Drive as the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) progresses with upgrades to Pump Station 134. The project, which began the week of July 6, 2026, aims to enhance the sanitary sewer system's capacity and efficiency for the Village.
The upgrades to Pump Station 134 include making the infrastructure more flood-resistant and improving its electrical and mechanical systems. WASD anticipates the construction will last eight months, meaning work will continue into early 2027.
E. Heather Drive has seen periodic closures to commuters and pedestrians since July, and these will continue throughout the project's duration. The closures are necessary to accommodate the construction work and maintain safety in the work zone.
Once the upgrades are complete, WASD plans to restore the area around Pump Station 134 with new landscaping, aiming to minimize the long-term visual impact of the construction.
Residents should plan for ongoing traffic adjustments on East Heather Drive until the project concludes in early 2027.
