Rip Current Statement Issued for Beaufort, Coastal Jasper Counties

A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties, effective immediately until Saturday evening, October 10, 2026, due to dangerous rip currents that can sweep swimmers into deeper water.

Residents and visitors in Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties are advised that a Rip Current Statement has been issued due to dangerous rip currents. This statement is effective immediately, October 9, 2026, at 2:16 PM EDT, and remains in effect through Saturday evening, October 10, 2026, until 8:00 PM EDT.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, SC, reports that rip currents can sweep even the strongest swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

To ensure safety, the NWS advises the following actions: Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

This advisory applies specifically to Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties.
