Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory for Beaufort, Coastal Jasper
A Rip Current Statement, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties, warning of dangerous rip currents, high surf, and coastal inundation until tonight and tomorrow.
Residents in Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement, High Surf Advisory, and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service Charleston SC. These advisories are in effect until various times this evening and tomorrow.
A Rip Current Statement is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Dangerous rip currents are expected. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. Swim parallel to the shoreline if able, or face the shore and call/wave for help if unable to escape. Swim near a lifeguard.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Up to half a foot of inundation above ground level is expected along shorelines and tidal waterways. Saltwater inundation may impact some roads. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. High tide at Fort Pulaski is expected around 5:31 PM EDT today, with inundation possible several hours before and after.
A High Surf Advisory, with large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet, is in effect until 2:00 PM EDT Wednesday. This will lead to dangerous surfing conditions and localized beach erosion, especially around high tide. Visit water.weather.gov for additional water level and flood impact information.
