Rip Current Statement Issued for West Central and Southwest Florida

Beachgoers in Pinellas, Coastal Hillsborough, Coastal Manatee, Coastal Sarasota, Coastal Charlotte, and Coastal Lee counties are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL.

This statement is in effect from tonight, October 10th at 8:18 PM EDT, and will remain active through Sunday evening, October 11th at 8:00 PM EDT. Dangerous rip currents are expected in these coastal areas.

The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even the most skilled swimmers away from shore into deeper water. To ensure safety, it is crucial to swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the NWS advises you to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
