Strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 50 mph are moving north across Coastal Hillsborough, Inland Pasco, and Inland Hillsborough counties until 4:45 PM EDT; seek shelter indoors immediately.

Residents in Coastal Hillsborough, Inland Pasco, and Inland Hillsborough counties are advised to seek shelter indoors immediately due to strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL issued a Special Weather Statement at 3:56 PM EDT, effective until 4:45 PM EDT today, October 9, 2026.

Doppler radar indicates a line of strong thunderstorms extending from near Plant City to Brandon, moving north at 30 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Areas expected to be impacted include Tampa, Plant City, Temple Terrace, Zephyrhills, Dade City, Lutz, Fish Hawk, Brandon, St. Leo, Hillsborough River State Park, Zephyrhills South, Palm River-Clair Mel, East Lake-Orient Park, Zephyrhills West, Land O Lakes, Pebble Creek, Zephyrhills North, Riverview, University, and Wesley Chapel South.

If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a sturdy building until the storms pass.
