Dangerous Rip Currents and Coastal Flooding Expected in Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough Counties, warning of dangerous rip currents and potential minor coastal flooding, with specific safety instructions for swimmers and travelers.
Residents and visitors in Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough Counties should be aware of dangerous rip currents and potential minor coastal flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL has issued a Rip Current Statement effective immediately, October 10 at 3:36 AM EDT, until Sunday evening.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 8 AM EDT this morning, with minor coastal flooding expected. Flooding of lots, parks, and roads is possible, though only isolated road closures are anticipated. If travel is necessary, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take protective measures.
Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves are expected through Sunday evening. Inexperienced swimmers are advised to stay out of the water due to hazardous surf conditions. For those entering the water, the NWS recommends swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
