A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Southern Jackson, including Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point, effective today, October 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM CDT. This alert from the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans indicates a potential for life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 6 feet above ground.

Evacuation preparations should be underway. Residents in affected areas are urged to assemble disaster supplies and know their evacuation routes. If evacuation orders are given for your area, you must leave immediately. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.

The window of concern for storm surge is from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Additionally, dangerous winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 mph are forecast, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant wind damage is possible, including damage to roofing, trees, and potential power outages. Act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.

Moderate flooding rain of 3-6 inches is also anticipated, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. A few tornadoes are also possible; be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

This alert expires today, October 7, 2026, at 9:00 PM CDT. For more information and local updates, visit msema.org.
