A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Southern Jackson County, including Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Gautier, and Moss Point, effective today, October 7, at 10:12 AM CDT by the National Weather Service New Orleans. Life-threatening inundation from rising water is possible within the next 48 hours, with a potential for 4-7 feet above ground in surge-prone areas. The window of concern for storm surge is Friday morning until Saturday morning.

Evacuation preparations should be underway. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately; failure to heed orders may result in loss of life.

Wind speeds are forecast between 25-35 mph with gusts to 45 mph, but the potential exists for dangerous winds of 58-73 mph. Prepare for significant wind damage, including to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Secure loose outdoor objects. Efforts to protect life and property should begin now.

Additionally, 3-6 inches of rain are expected, with isolated tornadoes possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings. For more information, visit msema.org.
