Special Weather Statement Issued: Strong Thunderstorms Approaching
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Northern and Southern Harrison and Jackson counties due to strong thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 40 mph, effective until 10:15 PM CDT tonight.
Residents in Northern Harrison, Northern Jackson, Southern Harrison, and Southern Jackson counties should monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA.
As of 9:15 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicates a line of strong thunderstorms moving south at 25 mph. These storms are currently extending from 7 miles southeast of Saucier to 21 miles east of Big Point, or from 11 miles north of Gulfport to 27 miles northeast of Escatawpa.
The primary hazard associated with these storms is wind gusts up to 40 mph. The National Weather Service warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations that may be impacted include Gulfport, Biloxi, Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, Long Beach, Moss Point, St. Martin, Escatawpa, Gautier, D'iberville, Vancleave, Gulf Hills, Hickory Hills, Latimer, Gulf Park Estates, Wade, Helena, Big Point, and Hurley.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 10:15 PM CDT tonight, September 21, 2026. Residents are advised to stay informed and be alert for threatening weather conditions during this time.
