Strong Thunderstorm Nears Jacksonville: Gusts Up To 50 MPH Expected
A strong thunderstorm is approaching Jacksonville and surrounding areas, bringing wind gusts up to 50 mph and heavy rain; residents should seek indoor shelter until 10:45 PM EDT.
Residents in Inland Nassau, Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Eastern Clay, Trout River, Western Clay, South Central Duval, Western Duval, and Western St. Johns counties should seek indoor shelter immediately due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective until 10:45 PM EDT tonight, October 9.
At 10:12 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Cisco Gardens, near Jacksonville, moving north at 20 mph. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could cause unsecured objects to blow around and tree limbs to be knocked down.
Locations impacted include Jacksonville, Orange Park, Callahan, Jacksonville International Airport, Mandarin, Arlington, Cisco Gardens, Ortega, Oakleaf Plantation, and Bellair-Meadowbrook Terrace.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
