High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flooding for Duval County Until Sunday

Coastal Duval County faces a High Rip Current Risk through tonight and a Coastal Flood Warning until Sunday morning, with significant flooding expected, according to the NWS.

Coastal Duval County residents are advised to take immediate action to protect flood-prone property and exercise extreme caution at beaches due to a High Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flood Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville.

The Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 6:00 AM EDT Sunday, October 11. Significant coastal flooding is expected, potentially closing numerous roads and inundating low-lying properties, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure. Some shoreline erosion is also anticipated.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late tonight, October 10. Dangerous rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Swim near a lifeguard if possible.

Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM EDT Sunday, October 11, with minor coastal flooding expected.

If travel is necessary during coastal flooding, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
