Residents in northwestern Clay County and southwestern Duval County, Florida, are advised to seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Jacksonville. The warning is in effect until 10:00 PM EDT tonight, October 9th.
At 9:25 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Oakleaf Plantation, moving north at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail. Radar indications suggest potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Areas expected to be impacted include Middleburg, Cecil Field, Normandy, Oakleaf Plantation, Lakeside, Baldwin, Asbury Lake, and Jacksonville Heights.
The National Weather Service urges everyone in the affected areas to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Remain alert for the possibility of a tornado. If a tornado is spotted, immediately go to a basement or a small central room within a sturdy structure.
