Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Crenshaw: Prepare for Dangerous Winds, Flooding, and Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Crenshaw County, including Brantley and Luverne, from the National Weather Service, warning of dangerous winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes. Residents should move to safe shelter, prepare for significant damage, and heed all flood and tornado warnings.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Crenshaw County, effective immediately from 6:53 AM CDT today, October 9th, by the National Weather Service in Mobile, AL. This warning includes Brantley and Luverne, and is expected to expire by 3:00 PM UTC today.
Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive. Peak wind gusts of 20-30 mph, with potential for gusts up to 45 mph, are anticipated, but a threat of 58 to 73 mph winds remains. Significant damage to roofing, siding, and carports is possible, along with downed trees and power outages. Unsecured objects could become dangerous projectiles.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Major flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and roads could become impassable.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safer shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be prepared to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Scattered tornadoes could cause significant damage, including demolished mobile homes and widespread power loss.
