Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Crenshaw County: Dangerous Winds, Flooding Expected
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Crenshaw County, including Brantley and Luverne, with dangerous winds up to 60 mph, significant flooding, and possible tornadoes expected starting early this evening.
Crenshaw County residents, including those in Brantley and Luverne, are under a Tropical Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL today, October 9, at 10:00 AM CDT. This warning indicates severe and immediate threats from dangerous winds, significant flooding, and the potential for tornadoes.
Residents should complete all remaining efforts to protect life and property as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds arrive early this evening, which are expected to reach 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, and could last until Saturday morning. Potential impacts include damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, with unsecured objects becoming dangerous projectiles. Several large trees may be snapped or uprooted, potentially rendering some roads impassable and causing scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Roads may become impassable and submerged.
The NWS also indicates a situation somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can hinder emergency plans and cause localized damage, including peeled roofs and overturned mobile homes.
This alert is effective until 6:00 PM UTC today, October 9. For local information, contact the Crenshaw County EMA at 334-335-4538. For storm impacts and further details, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
