Rip Current Warning Issued for Coastal Colleton and Charleston Counties

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Colleton and Charleston Counties until 8 PM EDT tonight, October 10, warning of dangerous rip currents.

Beachgoers in Coastal Colleton and Charleston Counties are advised to exercise extreme caution today, October 10, as a Rip Current Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC.

The statement is effective immediately, from 10:30 AM EDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening. Dangerous rip currents are expected in these coastal areas.

The NWS warns that rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. To ensure safety, the public is urged to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, individuals should relax and float, avoiding swimming against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
