Dangerous Rip Currents Expected in Charleston Through Sunday Evening
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Charleston County through Sunday evening, October 11, with dangerous rip currents expected. Swimmers are advised to exercise extreme caution and follow safety instructions if caught in a current.
Charleston County residents and visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution at area beaches due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston SC. Dangerous rip currents are expected through Sunday evening, October 11, 2026.
Rip currents can quickly pull even strong swimmers away from the shoreline into deeper water. This statement is effective immediately, October 10, 2026, at 7:07 PM EDT, and will remain in effect until Sunday evening, October 11, 2026, at 8:00 PM EDT.
The NWS advises beachgoers to swim only near a lifeguard. If you become caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help by calling or waving.
