A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Coastal Colleton and Charleston Counties, effective immediately until Saturday, October 10 at 8:00 PM EDT. The National Weather Service in Charleston, SC, warns of dangerous rip currents through Saturday evening.

Residents should also prepare for coastal flooding. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 PM to 9 PM EDT this evening, with up to half a foot of inundation expected along shorelines and tidal waterways. A Coastal Flood Watch is issued for Saturday morning, with up to one foot of inundation possible.

High tide in Charleston is expected around 7:51 PM this evening and 8:23 AM Saturday. Saltwater inundation is possible one to two hours before and after these times. Some roads may become impassable, and minor property flooding is expected.

If travel is necessary, allow extra time and do not drive through flooded roads or around barricades. Protect flood-prone property. Swimmers should always swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, swim parallel to the shore if possible, and wave for help if unable to escape. For additional water level and flood information, visit water.weather.gov.
