A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Lower St. Bernard, affecting Yscloskey, Delacroix, and Shell Beach, effective immediately until 9:00 PM CDT today, October 7th. The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, advises residents to take immediate action to prepare for life-threatening storm surge and strong tropical storm force winds.
Significant storm surge inundation of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible between Friday morning and Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, you must leave. Failure to evacuate may result in loss of life.
Winds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for stronger winds of 58 to 73 mph. Prepare for significant wind damage, including potential harm to roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Unsecured objects can become dangerous projectiles. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now.
Additionally, localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is possible, and there is a potential for a few tornadoes. Heed any flood watches and warnings, and if a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
