A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Lower St. Bernard, including Yscloskey, Delacroix, and Shell Beach, issued October 7 at 9:59 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans. This warning signifies a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline within the next 36 hours. The NWS advises immediate action: if evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

Forecasts indicate the potential for 3-5 feet of storm surge above ground in surge-prone areas, with a window of concern from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Additionally, a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect, with peak winds of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph possible. Significant impacts are anticipated, including damage to roofing and siding, mobile homes, and trees. Prepare for scattered power and communications outages. Efforts to protect life and property should now be underway, and all preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous. Little to no impact is expected from flooding rain or tornadoes.

The warning is effective until October 8, 2026, 6:00 AM UTC. For more information and safety instructions, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
