Day.News – A Rip Current Statement has been issued for the coastal areas of Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin Counties, effective immediately until Friday, October 9, at 5:00 AM EDT.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne, FL, warns of dangerous rip currents throughout today and tonight. Entering the surf is strongly discouraged due to the risk of rip currents, which are powerful channels of water that can quickly pull swimmers away from shore.

For those in affected areas, heed the advice of lifeguards and observe beach patrol flags and signs. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. Instead, if possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help.

This advisory applies to Coastal Indian River, Coastal St. Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands.
