Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Volusia & Brevard Until Friday Morning

A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Coastal Volusia and Brevard Counties until Friday morning, warning of dangerous rip currents and rough surf; beachgoers are advised to avoid entering the water.

Beachgoers in Coastal Volusia and Brevard Counties are advised to avoid entering the surf due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne FL. The statement is effective immediately, October 7 at 3:26 AM EDT, and remains in effect until Friday, October 8 at 5:00 AM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents and rough surf are expected to impact Coastal Volusia, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands throughout today and tonight. Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The NWS strongly discourages entering the surf during this period. If caught in a rip current, individuals should relax and float, avoiding swimming against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
