Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Volusia and Brevard Coasts
Dangerous rip currents are expected along Coastal Volusia and Brevard Counties through late tonight, with beachgoers strongly discouraged from entering the surf due to the risk of being swept into deeper water.
Beachgoers in Coastal Volusia and Brevard Counties are strongly discouraged from entering the surf due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne, FL. This statement is effective immediately, October 7, 2026, at 2:52 AM EDT, and remains in effect until 5:00 AM EDT on October 8, 2026.
Dangerous rip currents are expected along the entire coastlines of Volusia and Brevard Counties, including Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands. Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the NWS advises you to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and posted signs.
