A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Coastal Bay, with life-threatening inundation and hurricane-force winds possible within 48 hours; residents should prepare for evacuations and significant flooding.

A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Bay, including Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George, effective October 7 at 11:04 AM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland is possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in surge-prone areas should prepare for potential storm surge flooding greater than 6 feet above ground. Evacuation preparations should be underway. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route. Leave immediately if evacuation orders are given for your area.

A Hurricane Watch is also in effect, meaning hurricane-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts to 55 mph are forecast, with a potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.

Extensive flooding rain is also expected, with 4-8 inches of additional rainfall and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
