URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Winds for Coastal Bay
Coastal Bay faces an immediate, extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening inundation and dangerous winds expected; residents should complete evacuations now.
Coastal Bay residents face an immediate, extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective from October 7 at 11:00 PM EDT. This warning signifies a danger of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline within the next 36 hours. Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George are directly affected.
Evacuation efforts for storm surge should be completed now, as driving conditions will become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground, with potential for over 6 feet in surge-prone areas, is expected Friday morning until Saturday morning. This could lead to extensive deep inundation, structural damage, and widespread impassable roads.
Dangerous tropical storm-force winds, peaking at 30-40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, are expected Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Prepare for significant wind damage, including potential for up to 73 mph winds, and secure loose objects. Major flooding from an additional 4-8 inches of rain is also anticipated, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. A few tornadoes are also possible; be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
