Storm Surge Watch Issued for Coastal Bay: Life-Threatening Flooding Possible
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Bay, including Panama City and Mexico Beach, warning of life-threatening storm surge, dangerous winds, and major flooding beginning Friday.
Coastal Bay residents are advised to immediately prepare for life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds, following a Storm Surge Watch issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL today, October 7, at 4:52 PM EDT. This alert affects Panama City, Panama City Beach, Mexico Beach, Lynn Haven, and Bayou George.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation preparations should be underway. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately as failure to do so may result in loss of life. Significant structural damage to buildings and widespread inundation are anticipated.
Equivalent Tropical Storm force winds are expected with peak gusts up to 55 mph, beginning Friday afternoon and lasting until early Saturday morning. Potential for winds of 58 to 73 mph exists. Protect life and property now; complete preparations before winds become hazardous. Damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes is possible, along with downed trees and power outages.
Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches is forecast, with potential for major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a situation somewhat favorable for a few tornadoes. Have a plan to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
