
4-Year-Old Girl and Woman Injured in Deltona Accidental Shooting

A 4-year-old girl and a woman were hospitalized after a gun discharged inside a Deltona home on Boxelder Street on Saturday. Volusia County deputies responded to the incident, which the man involved claimed occurred accidentally while he was cleaning his firearm.
One round was fired. It struck the child in the chest and arm, then hit the woman in the leg. Both victims were conscious and alert when deputies arrived at the scene.
Deputies provided immediate emergency trauma care. They applied tourniquets to both victims and a chest seal to the child before EMS crews took over treatment. The 4-year-old was airlifted by Air One to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The woman was transported to HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital.
The investigation into the incident remains active. No additional information was immediately available.
