Life-Threatening Storm Surge Expected for Coastal Levy County

COASTAL LEVY COUNTY, FL – October 8, 2026, 5:19 PM EDT – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL has issued a Tropical Cyclone Local Statement warning of potential life-threatening storm surge along Coastal Levy County. A Storm Surge Watch is currently in effect for this area, with 2 to 4 feet of surge possible from the Suwannee River to Yankeetown.
Hurricane Isaias, located approximately 510 miles southwest of Cedar Key, is moving northeast at 12 mph with 100 mph winds. While tropical storm force winds are not expected in the local area, residents in Coastal Levy County should prepare for significant impacts from the surge, including inundation, damage to buildings, weakened roads, and major beach erosion. Moderate damage to marinas and piers is also possible.
Coastal Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough Counties may experience locally hazardous surge with limited impacts. Elsewhere across West Central and Southwest Florida, little to no impact is anticipated.
