A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for South Walton, including Santa Rosa Beach, Sandestin, and Freeport, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 7, at 4:52 PM EDT. Residents in these areas should immediately begin preparations for life-threatening conditions.
Life-threatening storm surge of 4-7 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation preparations should be underway, and residents are urged to know their evacuation routes. Failure to heed evacuation orders may result in loss of life.
Tropical Storm force winds, with gusts up to 70 mph, are expected from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning. Significant damage to property is possible, including roofing, siding, and mobile homes. Prepare for dangerous winds now and complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
Additional rainfall of 4-8 inches is forecasted, with potential for major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The NWS also indicates a potential for a few tornadoes. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly.
