A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Central Walton, including Red Bay, as of 5:03 AM EDT on October 8. Tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee warns residents to immediately complete preparations for dangerous wind, heavy rainfall, and the potential for tornadoes.

Peak winds are forecast at 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, but the NWS indicates a potential for winds between 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to roofing, siding, and outbuildings, downed trees, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway now. Act quickly to secure loose objects and prepare for hazardous conditions.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding is likely, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. The NWS Tallahassee advises monitoring weather.gov/tallahassee, floridadisaster.org, and co.walton.fl.us/1063/Emergency-Management for more information. This warning is effective until 1:15 PM UTC today.
