Residents and visitors in South Walton and Coastal Bay areas are advised to stay out of the water due to a High Rip Current Risk and a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. These conditions are expected to create life-threatening hazards.

The High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Sunday night, October 12, 2026. The High Surf Warning is active from Friday, October 10, at 10 AM CDT until Sunday, October 12, at 10 AM CDT. Dangerously large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are anticipated in the surf zone.

The NWS warns that breaking waves can sweep individuals off jetties and docks, and into dangerous seas. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are expected. Rip currents can carry even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

It is crucial that everyone remains out of the water. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
