A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service in Melbourne, FL, due to a strong thunderstorm moving through Coastal and Inland Volusia counties. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors if outdoors, as gusty winds up to 50 mph are expected.

As of 5:07 PM EDT, Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Daytona Beach, moving northeast at 15 mph. This alert is effective immediately and expires at 5:45 PM EDT today, October 3, 2026.

Locations impacted include Daytona Beach, Port Orange, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and South Daytona. The primary hazard is wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Conditions are also favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. While rare, these can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is sighted, residents should move indoors immediately and report the sighting to the National Weather Service.
