Dangerous Rip Current Statement Issued for Local Coasts Until Saturday Morning
A dangerous Rip Current Statement has been issued for Coastal Volusia, Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, and Brevard Counties until Saturday morning, urging beachgoers to avoid entering the surf due to strong currents and rough waves.
Beachgoers are strongly advised to avoid entering the surf due to a dangerous Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne FL. This statement is effective immediately, beginning at 2:25 AM EDT on Friday, September 27, 2026, and remains in effect until 3:00 AM EDT on Saturday, September 28, 2026.
The affected areas include Coastal Volusia, Coastal Indian River, Coastal Saint Lucie, Coastal Martin, Mainland Northern Brevard, Northern Brevard Barrier Islands, Mainland Southern Brevard, and Southern Brevard Barrier Islands Counties.
Dangerous rip currents and rough surf with breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet are expected. Rip currents are powerful channels of water that can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore. The NWS advises against swimming in these conditions.
If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Heed all advice from lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
