Dust Advisory Issued for Pima and Pinal Counties Until 8:45 PM MST
A Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of Pima and Pinal Counties until 8:45 PM MST tonight, October 10, with hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibility expected due to blowing dust.
A Dust Advisory has been issued for northwestern Pima County and southwestern Pinal County, Arizona, effective immediately until 8:45 PM MST tonight, October 10. The National Weather Service in Tucson advises motorists to exercise extreme caution.
At 7:22 PM MST, an area of blowing dust was detected approximately 9 miles south of Santa Rosa, moving northeast at 35 mph. This dust is creating hazardous travel conditions, with visibility potentially dropping to less than one mile.
Locations impacted include Ajo, Eloy, Santa Rosa, Picacho, and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Highways affected are Route 85 between mile markers 33 and 72, Route 86 between mile markers 53 and 111, and between mile markers 120 and 129, Route 87 between mile markers 116 and 123, and Interstate 10 between mile markers 205 and 216.
The National Weather Service strongly urges motorists not to drive into areas of blowing dust. If you encounter blowing dust, the critical safety instruction is: PULL ASIDE, STAY ALIVE!
