Rip Current Statement Issued: Dangerous Conditions on Local Beaches
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Nassau, Flagler, St. Johns, Glynn, and Camden counties until October 11 at 6:00 AM EDT, with dangerous rip currents expected. Swimmers are advised to take extreme caution and follow safety instructions from the National Weather Service.
Beachgoers in Coastal Nassau, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden are advised of a Rip Current Statement effective immediately until 6:00 AM EDT on October 11.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville, FL, has issued this statement due to dangerous rip currents expected through late tonight, October 10. These conditions can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The NWS urges individuals to take precautions. If you are at the beach, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
