MOBILE COASTAL — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL has issued an Extreme Storm Surge Warning for the Mobile Coastal area, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT. This warning impacts Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre, and extends through Saturday morning.

Residents in these areas should shelter against life-threatening storm surge of greater than 3 feet above ground. Flood preparations and any ordered evacuations should already be complete. Evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.

Peak storm surge inundation of 3-5 feet above ground is possible. Wind gusts up to 65 mph are forecast, with a potential for sustained winds of 58 to 73 mph. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should now be complete, and significant wind damage is possible. Now is the time to shelter from dangerous wind.

A Flood Watch remains in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov. For more information, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
