A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Mobile Coastal areas, including Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre; residents should shelter immediately from life-threatening storm surge and dangerous winds.

A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Mobile Coastal areas, including Grand Bay, Dauphin Island, and Bayou La Batre, effective immediately as of October 9 at 1:02 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. This warning is in effect until 9:15 PM UTC today.

Residents in these areas should shelter against life-threatening storm surge, with a potential for 3-5 feet above ground inundation through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete; evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside.

Dangerous wind conditions are also unfolding, with peak wind forecasts of 25-35 mph and gusts up to 65 mph, with a potential for 58 to 73 mph winds. Last-minute efforts to protect life and property should now be complete. The area remains subject to significant wind damage. Shelter from dangerous wind immediately.

A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rainfall expected. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters can enter structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous, with potential road and bridge closures.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Mobile County EMA at 251-460-8000 or visit mobilecountyema.gov. For more storm information, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
