Residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties are advised to stay out of the water due to a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. The warning is in effect from October 9 at 1:18 PM CDT until October 11 at 12:00 AM CDT.

Dangerously large breaking waves are expected, reaching 10 to 15 feet over Alabama beaches and 20 to 25 feet over northwest Florida beaches through tonight. While surf is expected to decrease Saturday morning, it will remain elevated. A High Rip Current Risk is also in effect through Sunday afternoon, with dangerous rip currents present.

The NWS warns that breaking waves can sweep individuals off jetties and docks, leading to dangerous conditions. Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are anticipated. Rip currents pose a serious threat, capable of pulling even experienced swimmers away from shore.

Everyone should remain out of the water. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure during this period.
