Heat Advisory Issued: Stay Hydrated, Seek Cool Spaces Through Thursday
A Heat Advisory is in effect for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties until Thursday, October 8, at 8:00 PM PDT, with temperatures up to 103°F inland; residents should stay hydrated and seek cool spaces.
Residents across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties are advised to take immediate precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA.
The advisory is effective immediately, October 7, 2026, at 8:31 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM PDT on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit near the coast and soaring to 103 degrees Fahrenheit inland. Areas specifically affected include the San Luis Obispo County Inland Central Coast, San Luis Obispo County Interior Valleys, San Luis Obispo County Mountains, Santa Barbara County Inland Central Coast, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Ynez Valley, and Southern Salinas Valley.
The NWS warns that these hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses. To mitigate risks, residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors.
