Residents across the Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County's coastal and interior mountain regions, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued. The National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA issued this warning today, October 6, 2026, at 2:56 AM PDT, and it remains in effect until October 8, 2026, at 8:00 PM PDT.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast and soaring to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the mountains and Cuyama Valley. This severe heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.

To ensure safety, the NWS urges all residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid direct sun exposure. Additionally, check on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be vulnerable to the heat. This warning affects the Cuyama Valley; Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast; Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast; Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range; Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range; Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains; and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
